Description

Lightbox/Shadowbox series is the latest body of work by Micaela Walker. She has captured in time small contrasting images of moments of life whether on the go, still as the condiments in a diner's booth or chasing a shadow that directs it's attention across a piano for a brief moment in a day.

"There is a certain nexus of light, shadow, density of color, playing momentarily off a fleeting subject that I find irresistible. I covet these moments and collect them like shells on the beach. I see each photo in this series as a collage of competing elements that unionize into a sort of elusive harmony. I was inspired by traditional dioramas and shadow boxes, filled with found and collected elements, to present each image as a jewel for exhibition rather than as a flat print. The prints are suspended in glass boxes by entomology pins, which are used to archivally preserve insects for museum displays." - Micaela Walker

Ian Trask
About Ian Trask
Ian’s visual art has been displayed in the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Recession Art, the Wassaic Project, Bertrand Delacroix Gallery, Bushwick Open Studios and DUMBO Arts Festival to name a few. In 2007 he took a temporary job as a hospital groundskeeper; a job which helped define his approach to artwork and the creative process. He sees the artistic potential of waste, making us consider the mark that we inevitably leave behind. He currently works at the Invisible Dog Studios in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn.
