We spent some time with Jake Wallace (one of our founding Fiercely Curious artists) this past weekend as he installed one of his vibrantly hand painted and uniquely serigraphed wood panels in a Brooklyn based collector's home. As he hammered away and leveled to perfection, we asked him what was next down the pipeline.
We're lucky enough to be able to offer this up to you- his very first (and for now, his only) piece from this series!
Fallout
Fallout by Jake Wallace - 30 x 40 Inches - Wood Panel - Acrylic and Screenprint - $1,500
Here's some words from Jake on what it took to achieve this beauty:
Jake: This new work is an exploration. I spent the past couple of months experimenting with some new techniques to see what would come of it. I continue to employ a layered approach by combining textures created from various photos I shoot on the street. I am also adding other layers of both hand painted elements (the red and yellow stripes), and other architectural elements in a more abstract way to create depth and contrast. I worked in a bit of a reverse order here. Normally I start with color and texture and end with the screen printed photo. In this piece I started by screenprinting a photo first on the blank panel and then layering other elements, textures and photos over it, which resulted in a more integrated and abstract finished product.
Thanks so much for your time, Jake and for allowing us to share this newest work of yours! E&Tx
