“The imagery in my work, often objects or landscapes rather than the corporeal, is a countenance of locality and history, as well as a confluence of man-made beauty and metaphysical conditions. There is an undercurrent of Americana in my work, which is symbolized by agents of science in our everyday homes -i.e. bathtubs, televisions, stereos, pools- and the catharsis associated with these objects.  We are small, predictable creatures, yet we magnificently create and leave behind beautiful histories and memories of the earth and its elements. I want to create something that looks like it could happen just once. In this sense, the scenes I have chosen to create are temporal - taking place in the moment, but perhaps still pertinent to a seemingly drifting history; the viewer is only passing by.” - Dana James

About Dana James
Dana James, born and raised in Manhattan is a Bushwick based artist who's current body of work references Americana - subtle suggestions of swimming pools, hammocks and television sets from suburbia. This serves as an interpretation of a life that was not her own and the objects are often naive and imagined notions of other places, almost like distant memories. Her paintings pool up in such a way that traps water, air and light into her dreamy canvases and we fell deep for her work when meeting her at this year's Bushwick Open Studios.
