Description

“I wanted to start a new category, a new species, after pursuing making infinitely flexible magnetic Bits for over ten years. It was time to figure out a direction more suitable for public areas because people steal my Bits. As a solution, I am now making “Panels”, which are larger versions of Bits but attached directly to the wall. The pieces in this show are intended as sketches, or scale models, for potentially much larger installations, and perhaps bigger ideas.

To begin, I started by cutting up scrap in my studio with no real intention whatsoever except to explore the intrinsic beauty of shapes. The shape that happened organically was the text bubble. Installed together they become a linked chain of information similar to that of the spine, a structure built to deliver information from one point to another. Currently, I’m horrified to learn it’s now been scientifically proven that lies spread six times further and faster than the truth.”

About Ian Trask
Ian’s visual art has been displayed in the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Recession Art, the Wassaic Project, Bertrand Delacroix Gallery, Bushwick Open Studios and DUMBO Arts Festival to name a few. In 2007 he took a temporary job as a hospital groundskeeper; a job which helped define his approach to artwork and the creative process. He sees the artistic potential of waste, making us consider the mark that we inevitably leave behind. He currently works at the Invisible Dog Studios in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn.
