Description

Hand soldered Cool White LED mesh (9,000-12,000K)

A sheet of LEDs rolled into a tube and connected together at its center. The top and bottom of the tube are folded backwards and fully attached to one another other yielding the final form. The light sculpture is based on a 4-sided polygonal mesh. The mesh takes its mechanical and structural cues from the electrical requirements of the LEDs. Each requires two conductors to power it and two conductors supply the surrounding LEDs. The mesh can be used to create tubes and donuts but not spheres. The material cannot be folded or the uninsulated wires will touch one another.

The piece is from the Organic Electric series. It can be placed on a surface (often with the power wires penetrating the surface to remain invisible) or hung as a chandelier. Sculptures are made to order and can be produced at varying sizes. They can be dimmed with a standard low-voltage dimmer and come with a brushed nickel ceiling canopy.

Technically this piece can be made in any LED color available (cool white, warm white, blue, UV, green, red, etc), but we recommend cool white (9000-12000K) or warm white (2800 - 3100K).

Shipping, installation and dimming integration not included - estimates provided upon request. Works can be installed to dim via Crestron or Lutron wall-mount dimmers or lighting control systems.

WOLF CITY DESIGN
About WOLF CITY DESIGN
Brooklyn-based artist Alexa Williams is the designer behind Wolf City Design. As both a painter and an installation artist who works with industrial materials, Alexa brings her fine art experience to the compositional decisions of Wolf City Design’s tile murals.

Alexa’s work references a sense of place and the tension between control and happenstance. Although she has worked in diverse media, she has found her practice with glazed ceramics to conflate her strengths of formal expressionism, her interests with material durability, and their presence in our everyday surroundings. All ceramic tiles are hand glazed in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
