ARTFUL SURF EXPERIENCE

On August 12th, we were lucky enough to have been invited to the preview event for the 4th Annual NYC Women’s Surf Film Festival, starting off with free surf lessons at the Rockaways!

This show captures and celebrates the artful essence of surfing with a curated selection of films by Lava Girl Surf’s co-founder Davina Grincevicius, a surfer and director herself as well as a photography exhibit, Prima Donna, by Australian surfing photographer Frances ‘Fran’ Miller. Here's some stunning shots by Fran -

Several filmmakers and notable surfers featured in this year’s films appeared at the screening Saturday evening, August 13 at the Rockaway Beach Surf Club.

A capture we love from Leah Dawson's film -

And what fun we had on the beach before the festivities began -

(Yes, a milestone for me - catching my first wave at almost 40 years old!)

Be sure to get on Lava Girl Surf’s email list for next year's NYC Women’s Surf Film Festival and to see these short films!

Ride the wave on in,
